The newest member of our FitnessBank Member-Athlete team, Josey Hilty has always been passionate about being active. A few years ago, she set out to find a new way to incorporate athletics into her life. After trying out a few ‘big box gyms’ that didn’t feel right, Josey found a small local gym and fell in love. A year into being a member, she was invited to join their team as an ISSA certified personal trainer.
Josey enjoys exercising in many different forms. Whether she’s getting her steps in on the treadmill or walking her dog, she also does a lot of weights, strength training, and circuit workouts. For her, trying new types of workouts and switching things up often is key to keeping things fresh.
Outside of the gym, she enjoys hiking around the trails of Atlanta as she explores the area around her new home, in addition to crocheting & upcycling. Josey is very close with her friends & family and tries to include them in many different parts of her life.
Why is living a healthy lifestyle important to you?
“I really struggled with my fitness journey after high school. It’s tough not knowing what is correct or having guidance to help learn. When I found the gym that was right for me, I found a second family. It helped me discover more of myself and what I am capable of doing. Staying fit is very important to me because it’s more than just the numbers – I see it as a way to invest in yourself and build new relationships.”
What does FitnessBank mean to you?
“One thing that resonates with me about FitnessBank is accessibility. When I was training under my gym, I enjoyed how welcoming it was. I trained and worked with people at many different places in their fitness journeys. We were able to figure out something that worked for every person that came through our doors. Similarly, FitnessBank can appeal to people from all walks of life. Being active and healthy can come in many different forms. I appreciate that FitnessBank gives those opportunities to users despite age or physical limitations.”
How do you get your steps in?
“I go for a run or long walk almost every day after work. It helps me clear my head and relax. During work hours, I try to get up and move around whenever possible. On days when I can’t exercise outside, I’ll be in my local gym on the treadmill or doing some type of strength training.”
Top 3 ideas to get your steps in:
- Get outside whenever possible. Steps don’t always need to be in the gym on a treadmill.
- Bring your friends and family! It’s a great way to stay close & spend time with your loved ones.
- Get in a routine. It helps me stay motivated & on track.
- Favorite way to get steps in: Hiking
- Favorite post-workout snacks: cottage cheese, fruit & yogurt, or eggs on wheat toast
